Schertz sits on the northeast edge of San Antonio along I-35, about 19 to 20 miles from downtown, and prides itself on being the closest community to the JBSA-Randolph gate. It is served largely by the highly rated Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD and is one of the most popular off-base choices for military families.
Schertz bills itself as the closest community to the JBSA-Randolph gate, and the city reports about 22% of residents are veterans. The whole northeast corridor is military-friendly, from BAH-friendly pricing to communities that understand PCS timelines. If you are being stationed at Randolph, this is usually the first place I tell you to look.
Most of Schertz feeds the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, a fast-growing district rated among the best in the region, with strong academics and high graduation rates. As with the rest of this area, zoning is address-specific, so I confirm the school assignment for every property.
The Schertz market is dominated by newer construction and well-kept established neighborhoods, with plenty of options in the $250s to $450s and up. You get modern floor plans, good lots, and a commute to San Antonio that avoids the worst of the western corridors.
